Training & Technical Assistance

What we offer
Community Health Partnership provides faculty, AV equipment, and evaluation forms at your site free of charge to your agency. When possible, we request four to six weeks notice for presentation requests. Presentations can be customized to relate to specific provider audiences, local events and epidemiology, and specific public health emergencies.  

Target Audiences
Any combination of presentation topics can be delivered for your group of clinicians (nurses, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician's assistants, pharmacists, dentists), clinical staff, and other health and social service providers.

Cost and Continuing Education Units
Training sessions are primarily HRSA funded; therefore, presentations are provided at no cost. Continuing Education Units (CEUs for Dentists and Nurses) are provided for FREE – 1 hour credit per 1 hour training. There is a $20 cost per unit per physician for Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) units.

General Disaster Preparedness
Introduction to risk, preparation, and response for public health emergencies, how to recognize a terrorist event or public health emergency, meet the immediate care needs of patients, alert appropriate authorities, participate in a coordinated response to a disaster.

  • Clinic Tabletop Exercise
    Hands-on exercise for member clinics, designed to follow at least the “General Disaster Preparedness” training and any combination of additional modules, provides an opportunity for medical providers to put the knowledge gained from didactic presentations into action.

  • Bioterrorism Preparedness
    Highlights elements of risk assessment, discusses the important role that primary healthcare providers play in surveillance for infectious disease and bioterrorist attack. Examples of biological agents include Anthrax, Smallpox, Plague, Tularemia, VHFs and Botulinum.

  • Chemical & Radiological Agents
    Overview of the historical use of chemical agents, clinical syndromes common to agents such as pulmonary irritants, vesicants, chemical asphyxiants, nerve agents and nuclear/radiological issues. The importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and basic decontamination strategies is also addressed.

  • Emerging Infectious Diseases
    Overview of historical and current issues related to pandemics, and highlights the importance of “looking for zebras” and public health reporting. May include an overview of topics such as MRSA, Multi Drug-Resistant TB, Avian Influenza, and West Nile Virus. This training is updated regularly to reflect current infectious disease concerns and data.

  • Infections After Natural Disasters
    Discusses the potential risks of a variety of types of infections that may occur after natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, examines infections such as typhoid fever, cholera, malaria, gastroenteritis, measles and hepatitis.

  • Pandemic Influenza
    Presents risk for a global influenza outbreak including review of historical clues from previous influenza pandemics and the molecular origins of new influenza strains. Recent avian influenza outbreaks that have caused significant human infections, and will assess what the chances are of progressing to a global pandemic in the near future.  Finally, we will discuss what we can do to prepare ourselves, in the event of a global influenza outbreak. 

  • Technical Assistance
    Available to member clinics: emergency operations planning assistance, review and updating of clinic and health center emergency operations plans, emergency preparedness drills and scenarios, emergency preparedness liaison assistance, emergency preparedness training for clinic staff.

  • Healthy Women, Healthy Choices
    Train-The-Trainer workshops for health and social service providers, health education curriculum geared toward mid-life (40-64 year old) women who have limited access to health care, promotes healthier behaviors and focuses on five issues:  breast health, menopause/osteoporosis, nutrition, physical activity, and stress management.

  • Basic HIV Overview
    Refresher training for providers including local trends of HIV transmission and prevalence, progression of the virus, identifying acute HIV infection, resistance, and common medications.

  •  HIV & Psychiatric Illness
    Identifies mental health issues associated with substance use and HIV seroconversion, addresses psychiatric side effects of HIV medications.
  • HIV & the Asian-American and Pacific Islander Community
    Current trends relative to HIV risk factors and the API community, unique barriers to accessing services, strategies to improve HIV prevention and care services.

  • Prevention with Positives and Partner Notification
    Defines Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS), how to refer to and utilize services available through state and local health department partner services programs, strategies for integration of prevention strategies into primary care for people living with HIV.

  • Oral Sex, Drugs, & Piercing: What Dental Professionals Need to Know
    Identifies increased risk factors for infectious diseases associated with oral sex, substance use, and piercing, assists dental professionals in recognizing acute HIV infection, and gives a brief overview of local referral sources for treatment and care.

  • Oral Health Screening & Dental Referrals: Issues for the Primary Care Provider
    Introduces a simple oral health screening tool to recognize urgent oral health issues, including signs of methamphetamine use and acute symptoms of HIV infection, assists participants in providing appropriate information when referring someone for dental care, gives a brief overview of credible sources for dental referrals and consultations in the South Bay area.

  • HIV Disclosure and Confidentiality Issues for Health Care Providers
    Identifies legal issues that arise for people living with HIV, provides an overview of housing services and the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), discusses the relevance of trusting, non-judgmental relationships among providers and HIV-positive clients, provides a forum for discussion of confidentiality concerns and credible referral sources.

  • HIV & Latinos
    Current trends relative to HIV risk factors and Latinos, identifies unique barriers (language, stigma, etc.) to accessing services, strategies to improve HIV prevention and care services.

  • HIV & Women
    Current trends relative to HIV risk factors and women, gender-specific barriers to accessing HIV prevention and care services, overview of HIV therapy during pregnancy and strategies for prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

  • Sex, Meth, and HIV
    Current t rends in methamphetamine use and implications on rates of HIV transmission, effective strategies for working with and treating clients using street drugs, identifies effective strategies in methamphetamine abuse treatment.

  • Technical Assistance
    Chart reviews, assistance with development and review of policies and procedures, clinical consultations relative to patient care, treatment, and/or medications.

  • Transgender 101
    Identifies terms and concepts relevant to transgender experiences, explains the distinctions and range of choices and possibilities related to transgender identity, surgeries and medical options.

  • Transgender Awareness for the HIV Provider
    Defines terms and concepts regarding transgender people's lives and experiences including gender identity as opposed to sexual orientation, identifies unique barriers to accessing HIV prevention and care services, strategies providers can implement to improve HIV prevention and care services for transgender people.

  • Primary Care of the Transgender Patient
    Defines standards of care, terms, and hormone protocols for health care professionals working with transgender clients, identifies barriers to accessing primary care and strategies providers can implement to improve care services for transgender people.

  • Technical Assistance
    Review and assistance with development of clinic policies and procedures, clinical consultations relative to culturally appropriate health care and services and resources for transgender clients .
