HIV PLANNING COUNCIL MEMBERSHIP
The Santa Clara County HIV Planning Council is made up of 25-38 community stakeholders, including medical professionals, representatives from AIDS service and community based organizations, family members, friends, and those directly affected by HIV/AIDS in Santa Clara County – each representing a specific membership category. Supervisors and at least 33% are persons living with HIV/AIDS. Planning Council members serve on a volunteer basis.
HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE
Just as the community depends on Council members, the Council depends on the community. Without your input and questions, the Planning Council cannot effectively make decisions about the Ryan White HIV/AIDS system of care in our County.
You are invited to:
- Participate in your care by attending and speaking at Planning Council meetings held on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at 976 Lenzen Avenue, San Jose, CA 95126 in the Park Alameda Conference room.
- Participate in focus groups, personal interviews, or surveys sponsored by the Planning Council.
- Share your experience with Council Support. We are available at the monthly meetings, by email or by phone at 408.792.5210.

COMMENTS ABOUT THE COUNCIL
“Serving on the Planning Council is a fantastic opportunity for people who think the system needs help and want to have a voice in making decisions to the system.”
“Working on the Planning Council means that people in our community are actively participating in designing and providing the services we ourselves need.”
“As a woman of color, serving on the Planning Council helps ensure that my community has a voice in how services for HIV are delivered.”
“Being a member of the Planning Council allows me to be involved in helping those in our community who need support and assistance to live more comfortably. I feel good about being a participant, not a bystander.”
“The Planning Council is one of the most significant HIV/AIDS decision-making bodies in the County. Each year the Council determines the appropriate allocation for over $3 million in Federal funding and provides continuing feedback on the development and implementation of a comprehensive system of care for individuals living with HIV or AIDS. The time I have spent on the Planning Council has been personally rewarding and produced tangible results. I would encourage anyone who is interested in HIV and AIDS issues to apply for membership.”
